Brass Gate Valves

Brass gate valves are tap like fittings that release or shut off the flow of fluid in pipework. Usually the valve would be used fully open or fully closed, they do not provide an accurate or measured way to restrict flow. They work by opening and closing a "gate" inside the valve which is operated by the wheelhead part of the product. It has a cast brass body, a fully opening wedge disc, and a non-rising stem (for fully open service, not for throttling or frequent use). They are rated for 200 psi water, oil, or gas and have a temperature range of -40°C (-40°F) to 200°C (392°F). These valves are typically disposable but replacement handles are available. Typically used on manufacturing, HVAC, plumbing and overall liquid applications.

Brass Gate Valves Types

Brass gate valves are divided into a number of classes, depending on its disc and type of stems. According to gate types they can be divided into two main types: Parallel and wedge-shaped. The parallel gate valves use a flat gate between two parallel seats, and a popular type is the knife gate valve designed with a sharp edge on the bottom of the gate. The wedge-shaped gate valves use two inclined seats and a slightly mismatched inclined gate. According to stem types they can be divided into: rising stem gate valve with outside screw and non-stem gate valve. The rising stem gate valves are also known as OS & Y type (Outside steam and York). The stem rises while opening and lower while closing the valve offering an indication of the gate valve position. The stem threads never contact the flow medium (not subject to corrosion/erosion). The non-rising stem gate valves also known as Insider screw Valve, The stem of the non-rising stem gate valve is threaded into the gate. The hand wheel and stem move together and there is no rising and lowering of the stem. The stem is in contact with the flow medium.
